Making Changes: We are not meant to stay the same

By Shell - January 15, 2020

Stop. 🛑

Depending on how old you are, take a moment to look back at your life - let's say 10, 20, even 30+ years ago. Think about this... Where you were living? Who you were surrounded by? What were you doing back then? Where did you think you were headed? What were your future plans? Are you who you thought you'd be today? Are you where you'd thought you would be today?

There is a very good chance that you have grown or transformed into a newer - 2020 - version of yourself. And, while a little bit of your past self may still be apparent, you have - well, hopefully - evolved.

It is very important for us to make changes in our lives and to grow. We were never meant to stay the same - not the same person, not the same place in life. What if you were the age you are now, but you never allowed yourself to grow (besides physically, of course) from 20 years ago? It seems sort of silly, doesn't it?

🤣

Seriously, though - we are constantly changing.

People come and go in our lives. Our passions change from time to time. Our goals, our dreams, our hopes, our traditions -- they all change at some point. And likely more than once. Sometimes for the better, and sometimes not.

Do you know what remains constant, though? Can you think of something that is ALWAYS there - no matter what changes you find in your life?

God. ✝ "I am the LORD, and I do not change." - Malachai 3:6 (NLT)

Here's the thing - God may not change, but he wants us to change. He wants us to grow. He wants us to transform into the masterpiece he intended for our lives. I mean, if you think you found your way here - to where you are in life now - just by coincidence and with no greater purpose - please send me an email so we can chat. It's time we have a talk. The LORD says, "I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you." - Psalm 32:8

There are verses found all throughout the Bible about change - different seasons, transformation, renewals, and so on. In case you missed it, I wrote about some of those last week. You can read it here

"For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland so my chosen people can be refreshed." - Isaiah 43:19

But, do you know what really shows us that God wants us to make changes?

★ grace ★

God offers us grace. In his book, Free for the Taking - The Life-changing Power of Grace, author Joseph Cooke defines grace in, perhaps, the best way possible. He says, "Grace is nothing more nor less than the face that love wears when it meets imperfection, weakness, failure, sin." Go on - read that definition again. Isn't that just beautiful?

God knows we make horrible decisions sometimes. He knows that we may binge too much tv. He knows that we get grumpy and cranky. He knows that we don't always do what we should do for him -- and sometimes find ourselves focused on our own wants and needs first. He knows that sometimes life just gets hard - and sometimes we just get tired. He totally gets it. That's where grace comes in.

Poor decisions, bad habits, weaknesses, shame, and on and on and on...

Whatever it is, God can help you change it.

Making changes in your life is necessary if you want to keep growing. It is like trimming your hair to rid the dead ends so it can keep growing healthy. (Weird analogy, I know, but it's true!)

So, make an appointment to get your dead ends cut off and decide what changes you can make today!

Remember -- if you ever want to talk or need some sort of guidance along your journey, I am here for you. I am on a journey, too. And, I don't have many answers, but I do have God, two ears, and a heart so that has to count for something!

Until next time... 💗💗
